3 Plumbing Tips for Pet Owners
Posted on April 29th, 2015
Plumbing and pets don’t always mix, much to the dismay of pet parents everywhere. Hair from cats and dogs can wreak havoc on your pipes! However, it doesn’t have to be this way — if you take the right preventative steps.
Below, we take a look at a few plumbing tips for pet owners:
1. Use a strainer when bathing your pet
Next time you give your furry friend a bath, be sure place a strainer in the drain. This will prevent pet hair from entering your pipes and causing a massive clog. You can also wash your pet outside to avoid this problem altogether!
2. Don’t leave dogs unattended in the yard
“I once had a client’s dog dig up a water pipe and chew through it,” says Marc Goldberg of ChicagoDogTrainer.com. You’d be amazed by the damage a digging puppy or adult dog can do in an effort to stay cool. Allow him to cool off inside, and be sure to keep a close eye on him when he’s outdoors.
3. Clean your toilet frequently
Nobody likes cleaning the toilet, but keeping yours sparkling may be the key to preventing dogs and cats from sipping out of it. “To discourage toilet-drinking, water bowls should be washed and refreshed at least twice daily,” recommends SPCA. This will keep your pet healthy and your bathroom clean!
