All About World Toilet Day
Posted on November 19th, 2015
Did you know that November 19 is World Toilet Day? Comical as it may sound, this initiative is no laughing matter. The date was officially marked World Toilet Day back in 2013 by the United Nations (UN), and its intention is to bring a serious problem to light: More than 2.4 billion people do not have adequate sanitation.
Insufficient sanitation can increase the risk of disease and malnutrition. It can also put women and children at a greater chance of rape and abuse, due to the fact that there is no privacy.
The World Toilet Organization (WTO) was founded back in 2001. Through its numerous initiatives, the WTO provides an international platform for toilet associations, governments, academic institutions, foundations and UN agencies to exchange knowledge and leverage media and corporate support in an effort to promote clean and healthy sanitation and policies.
On November 19, people worldwide are encouraged to take a stand to help promote the idea that more needs to be done. Whether you share a tweet acknowledging the importance of this issue or donate to the organization, anything that shows your support will bring the WTO one step closer to achieving its goal.
At Plumbing Medic, we understand the importance of having proper sanitation. Help support the cause by using the hashtags #worldtoiletday and #wecantwait!
