When Flushing Backfires, Try These Unclogging Tricks

Posted on October 10th, 2017

When you flush the toilet and start to see the tide rising, your heart sinks just a little bit. Once you shut down the main water valve beneath or on the side of your toilet, it is time to deal with this clog. If a plunger doesn’t do the trick, these two unclogging tricks are cheap and they should get the job done:

toilet clog- drain cleaning service

Homemade Drain Cleaner

Materials You Need:

  • Half Gallon Water
  • Stove top
  • 1 Cup Baking Soda
  • 2 Cup Vinegar

Steps to Take:

  • Boil water on the stove in a large pot.
  • Pour 1 cup of baking soda and 2 cups of vinegar into the bowl.
  • The mixture will make a ‘fizzing’ noise.
  • After 15 minutes, pour the pot of boiling water into the bowl and let it sit overnight.
  • You should be good to go the next morning or in several hours!

Wire Hanger

Materials You Need:

  • Wire Hanger
  • Cloth/Rag
  • Duct Tape
  • Pliers (If Necessary)

Steps to Take:

  • Straighten the wire hanger to the best of your ability. Use pliers if necessary.
  • Wrap the sharp end of the wire hanger with the cloth and duct tape it to hold in place.
  • This is there so that you can’t damage your toilet.
  • Stick the cloth side of the hanger into the toilet and maneuver it to try and remove the clog.
  • Try to push the obstruction or wiggle it out. Don’t continue to force it deeper if you are not making any progress.

Our team of plumbers and drain technicians are ‘surgical’ when it comes to toilet drains and that is why we hired them to the Plumbing & A/C Medic team. There isn’t a clog they can’t defeat and we are still offering our Drain Cleaning Special for the amazing price of $64!
