Help Us Celebrate Fix a Leak Week!
Posted on March 16th, 2016
Fix a Leak Week is March 14-20, 2016. The initiative seeks to bring awareness to just how much U.S. water household leaks add up to — more than 1 trillion gallons of water each year. This week, inspect your plumbing fixtures for opportunities to save water and money!
To learn a bit more about Fix a Leak Week, watch the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) animated video below:
Follow these steps to detect and tackle plumbing leaks in your home:
1. Check the toilet
Add a few drops of food coloring into your toilet’s tank. Wait 10 minutes, and then peek into the bowl. If the color appears, you have a leak. Remember to flush! Then, call in a professional plumber (hey, that’s us!) to repair the issue.
2. Tighten plumbing connections
Sometimes all your plumbing needs is a good twist to stop drips. If you have a WaterSense labeled faucet aerator, turn it clockwise to save even more water. Don’t have aerators installed on your faucets? Give us a call for expert installation.
3. Replace old and broken plumbing fixtures
If you haven’t upgraded your home’s plumbing fixtures recently, consider replacing with WaterSense labeled models. It can make a huge difference! For example, according to the EPA, the average family can save 13,000 gallons of water by replacing old toilets with more efficient models.
