Home Baking Soda Hacks to Know and Use!

Posted on June 27th, 2019

Ah, baking soda! Known to have a multitude of purposes around your home, it’s one of the best ingredients for success. Whether you’re looking for a natural alternative to a problem or are looking for another solution when you’re at wit’s end, baking soda is the helping hand you need around your home! Without further ado, here are some of the many ways baking soda can be used:

Clear + Clean a Drain

Does a drain in your home have a foul smell or is the water draining rather slowly? Either way, baking soda is the natural solution to the problem! To start, you’ll want to turn the knob and have hot water running in your sink. From there, add about a cup of baking soda (gradually) to the drain and within a matter of minutes, you’ll have a clear, fresh-smelling drain in your home!

Deodorize your Refrigerator

When you’ve visited your grandparent’s house as a kid, did you ever notice a ~strange~ box sitting in the back of a fridge shelf? Well, that box was more than likely baking soda and was placed there on purpose — but why is that?

Believe it or not, baking soda will soak up odors and keep your fridge as fresh as can be, so you’re not greeted with an unpleasant smell every time you open it. Of course, you’ll also want to wipe down the inside of your fridge every now and then to prevent bacteria from growing.

Speed Up Your Dishwasher

Do you feel as if your dishwasher is lagging in its performance? If so, that could be due to a buildup of dirt, grease, and grime in your appliance. If you’re looking to clean your unit and get the cleanest dishes around, use some baking soda with a sprinkle of borax powder and let the dishwasher run on a cycle. You’ll be enamored by how incredible the results will be!
