How to Heat AND Cool Your Home for Less
Posted on December 27th, 2016
Now that the holidays are over, our wallets could use a break. If you are like most homeowners, you are probably looking for ways to save in the new year. Start 2017 off on the right foot by making a few simple changes to your home energy use.
Energy Saving Tips:
Change Your Air Filters – When was the last time you changed your air filters? You should check your air filters each month to ensure that they are not full of dirt and dust. A dirty air filter will cause your HVAC system to work harder to push air through your home, meaning a higher utility bill.
Schedule A Tune-Up – Just like any piece of equipment, your heating and cooling system requires regular maintenance in order to run efficiently. An annual HVAC tune-up will help catch any problems early on, extend the lifespan of your system, and ensure that your system is running efficiently (so that you aren’t wasting money).
Install a Programmable (or Smart) Thermostat – A programmable thermostat or smart thermostat will adjust the temperature of your home to better suit your needs. This means that you can save money while you’re away at work, and still keep your house comfortable when you are there.
Update Outdated Equipment – How old is the heating and cooling equipment in your home? If it’s over ten years old, it might be time to upgrade to a newer, more energy-efficient system. A new, Energy Star qualified HVAC system will help you cut back on your annual energy bill.
