How Do I Know When my House Needs to be Repiped?
Posted on April 9th, 2018
Repiping your house can be a huge undertaking.
Unless there are clear signs that you need to get your house repiped, you may not want to do it. Many older homes, typically over 50 years, could be good candidates for a repiped system. Pay attention to the warning signs, listen to your home.
Here are some key points to keep on your mind when it comes to your home’s plumbing with regards to repiping.
Lack of Water Pressure
If you have your water on full blast and you are still not getting more than a little bit of a stream, this could be a problem. Since the pipes are older, minerals and materials have likely built up over time and this is causing the problem.
Abnormally Colored Water
If you have to run the water for more than a minute to get clear water, repiping may be necessary.
Leaks can occur at any time, but if there are a number of leaks, the pipes may be getting too old. You may be able to see leaks that are in the walls, but there could also even be leaks you can’t see, which are only discovered after more problems arise. Leaks in the walls can even lead to soggy points. Which also means a promotion of mold growth, keep your eyes and nose on the look out.
If there is corrosion or rust on the pipes, this could indicate that they are old and will need to be replaced soon.
If you are constantly using a drain cleaner and nothing is working and clogs keep coming back quickly, there could be problems with the piping.
Old pipes can be dangerous. They could be adding toxic things like lead into the water and these pipes are more likely to break, which would mean a much more expensive bill for you in the end. If you notice any signs, contact Plumbing & A/C Medic.
