How Plumbing Leaks Lead to Pest Problems
If you are someone who never really thinks about your plumbing, it could literally come back to bite you. Minor leaks in your laundry room, sink and toilet could lead to pest invasions that you might not find until it is too late. If you weren’t aware prior to reading this blog, we are glad we got to you in time:
Check the Sink
The area underneath your sink is one you likely utilize for storage and it can be easy to forget what lies behind those hair and cleaning products. Even the smallest leak that bleeds out onto the floor can attract pests and these can be hard to detect! Pest control professionals will tell you that creatures like mosquitoes, beetles and termites will often pop up in the bathroom or kitchen first. Do you know why that is? It’s because of the access to that good ‘ol H2O that we all need!
Don’t Be a Breeding Ground
Mosquitoes, fleas and other airborne pests need to breed and lay their eggs in water. But did you know that they can lay their eggs in an as little as ONE inch of water? Even a tiny leak under the sink or washing machine can accumulate to that depth in 10-15 minutes. The only thing worse than two mosquitoes in your home is two-hundred mosquitoes in your home.
Beware the Enemy You Can’t See
It is the enemies we do not see that pose the biggest threat! Wood boring insects like termites can’t survive and build colonies without access to water. They often hide behind/underneath walls and they look for moisture to soften the wood fibers so that it is easier for them to tunnel through. If you leave a plumbing leak undetected, you are making their life much easier!
If you notice slow moving drains or low water pressure, it could be a sign that there is a leak somewhere in your plumbing system. Leaks can lead to pests and severe leaks can lead to costly damages that you just can’t afford right now.
