Preventing Clogged Drains This Holiday Season
Posted on December 16th, 2015
The holiday season is the busiest time of year for plumbers. And while our phones are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, we can all agree that a holiday plumbing emergency is less-than-ideal.
To prevent clogged drains this holiday season, follow these steps:
1. DON’T pour oil down the drain. Some of our favorite holiday dishes are baked, fried and roasted. But excess cooking oil needs to be properly disposed of. Pour cooled fats and oils into a sealed container or bag, and then toss it in the garbage can.
2. DON’T abuse your garbage disposal. When cooking food in bulk, putting excess scraps down the disposal might sound like a good idea. But in doing so, you’re putting your plumbing system under a lot of stress. Overusing your garbage disposal could turn something as innocent as peeling potatoes into a whole-house plumbing clog.
3. DO perform maintenance on your sewer line. Even if you’re extra careful about what you flush down the toilet, anything from tree roots to grease buildup can clog a sewer line over time. Schedule a camera inspection with Plumbing Medic. We’ll look for potential issues and make repairs now — so you don’t have to live in fear of a holiday plumbing emergency.
