Water Heater Tips for Saving Money
Posted on July 22nd, 2015
It’s no secret that we all want to save money. Making a few small tweaks to your water heater — and your routine — can help you do just that. Start with these simple changes:
1. Take short showers
“A warm bath is a nice luxury, but for daily bathing stick with a short shower,” suggests the US Department of Energy. Get your entire family on board to see a real difference in your water bill. If you’re really trying to cut back, turn off the water while lathering up, too!
2. Lower your water heater’s temperature
Many water heaters are automatically set to 140 degrees. It’s not necessary for your water to get this hot! Decrease its temperature to 120 degrees to save significantly on your water heating costs.
3. Don’t run the water
Lots of us are guilty of leaving the water on while we brush our teeth. Try to get out of the habit of letting water run. You’d be surprised by how quickly all those extra minutes add up.
4. Invest in a new water heater
Today’s water heaters are considerably more efficient than those made just 10 years ago. If you’re in the market for a new water heater, read our Guide to Water Heater Efficiency and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
