What is Bath Safety Month?

Posted on January 9th, 2019

When it comes to hygiene, one of the most popular methods is taking a bath. Of course, drawing a bath is relaxing and soothing — but it can also be quite dangerous. Therefore, it has been put into effect that January is noted as National Bath Safety Month — but what does that mean, exactly?

What is Bath Safety Month?

Without further ado, National Bath Safety Month was created to give parents of young children tips on how to keep their bath time safe. However, in recent years the awareness has also grown to include senior citizens and virtually all adults that take baths, too. Since it’s effortless to turn the hot water on and jump in, it’s essential that bathers take precaution before things become dangerous.

How Can I Participate?

When it comes to bath safety, it’s very simple to participate. Not sure where to start? Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Bath Safety Tips

  • Place a rubber bath mat in the tub; will help prevent any slipping.
  • Only opt to use lukewarm water for your child’s bath, since hot water can cause burns.
  • If the bath is for you, you can use warmer water — but let it sit a little bit before hopping in, just to prevent any injuries.
  • Parents, it’s always essential to supervise any child under 5 when in the bath.
  • If your child is older, make sure you’re nearby to prevent any accidents from happening. Additionally, don’t fill the tub up all the way; keep it at waist level.
  • Seniors, it’s best to have a safety handle to help get in/out of the tub with ease.
  • When exiting the tub, place another towel or bath mat on the outside, to prevent slipping on the bathroom tile.
