Why Does My Toilet Bubble?
Posted on October 12th, 2016
Are there bubbling and gurgling sounds coming from your toilet? While this can become a serious plumbing problem if ignored, you can rest easy knowing that a bubbling toilet is easy to diagnose and has a simple fix. Here are a few of the most common reasons you’re hearing bubbling coming from your bathroom toilet.
There is air in your pipes.
It’s important to have some air in your plumbing pipes, however if your vent pipes are too small or in the wrong place, the air may not be able to exit efficiently. This can cause gurgling in your toilet.
Your dishwasher or washing machine is inadequately vented.
Some home appliances, like your dishwasher and washing machine, might be hooked up to your toilet pipes or a nearby sink drain. If they are inadequately vented, the air won’t be able to properly be released from your plumbing.
Your toilet is clogged.
Use a plunger to create a suction in your toilet. This will loosen the blockage and hopefully remove the clog. If the vent is clogged from backed-up sewer solids, you may need a plumber’s snake to clear the stoppage.
